Ophthalmology

Opthalmology

The eyes are very delicate organs and it is important to treat them with the utmost care. Many problems can plague the eyes, from mild irritation or infection to visually threatening glaucoma. Ocular problems must be treated promptly and professionally to ensure the best outcome. Our veterinarians are trained to diagnose and treat injuries as well as a variety of eye ailments such as glaucoma, dry eye and cataracts.

Symptoms to watch for:

  • Squinting
  • Cloudiness/Change in eye appearance
  • Eye discharge
  • Red Eyes
  • Swelling
  • Loss of Vision

Eye Examination:
During regular exams our veterinarians will utilize an ophthalmoscope to look at various aspects of your pet's eyes. Often, additional tests may be recommended and can be done in-house. We can utilize specialized equipment such as a tonopen to measure eye pressures to test for glaucoma or quickly diagnose corneal defects or dry eye, all during your visit.

Specialized Eye Procedures:
Packerland is experienced with various procedures to help treat eye disease and improve overall eye health.

Burr Keratectomy

Utilizing a specialized burr on the cornea for treatment of non-healing ulcers.

Entropion/Ectropion

Surgical correction of rolling or drooping of the eyelids.

Distichiasis

Removal of inward growing eyelashes utilizing an electroepilator.

"Cherry Eye"

Tacking or removal procedures for third eyelid gland prolapse.

Enucleation

Removal of the Eye.
