Back to School Tips for Your Pets

As (dare we say it?) the fall semester approaches and you find yourself in the midst of buying school supplies and preparing for a new schedule, you may need help preparing your pet’s as well as your kid’s. If you and/or your kids spent the summer home with your critters, you might notice some pet anxiety once everyone resumes their school-year routine. To help your pets through this transition, you might want to leave the house every day for an hour or two (if possible) so they get used to being “on their own” again. You may also want to leave them with a yummy treat to occupy their time – Kong toys stuffed with canned food or other treats can keep dogs busy for a while and are a safe option. You can also get treat balls for cats – your cat will have to bat it around to get the food reward. Once school is back in session, make sure to take time out of your day to spend with your pet. Sometimes they can be forgotten – unintentionally, of-course – in the daily bustle of carpools, homework, and extra-curricular activities. If your pet seems to experience stress during this time, pheromones (anxiety-easing hormones) can really help. Don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions! cat with books
