Earlier Diagnosis of Kidney Disease in Dogs and CatsFor anyone who has experienced it, kidney disease is a rotten thing to manage. Both cats and dogs are affected but cats much more commonly. For many years our standard kidney tests were all that was available for diagnosis. Unfortunately, these tests only pick up on kidney damage when more than 70% of the kidney function is already gone. Once the function is gone, it can not be reversed. There is a new test available, called an SDMA test, that detects kidney problems on average 1.5 years SOONER than our traditional tests. This means that management can be initiated early and the progression of disease can be slowed. We offer this test at Packerland Veterinary Center and have results available within 1-3 days.
