Attention Firework Fearing Dogs (and their owners)!

Scared DogDo you dread the 4th of July (or should we call it- My dog shivers in the corner day)? There may be some relief in sight. Zoetis (the veterinary branch of Pfizer) recently came out with a product called Sileo that blocks the fear response in a dog's brain. In science terms, it inhibits the release of noradrenaline from neurons. Noradrenaline is responsible for making your dog scared. By blocking this response, your dog will be able to hear the fireworks (or thunderstorms) and not become worked up and anxious. This drug calms your dog without sedating him/her. Administration is very easy- the tube is 'dialed' to the correct dose for your dog's weight, the tip is inserted in the mouth between the teeth and the lip, and the plunger is pushed. The amount of gel is very small and is absorbed through your dog's gums. The effect lasts for 2-3 hours, and Sileo can be re-dosed at that time if needed. If you think that this is something that would be a good fit for your dog, give us a call!
